Coping with the Cold

The current cold snap has caught many wiregrass residents by surprise.

The Deep South is dealing with a deep freeze.

“It's probably the cold weather that we've ever had,” said Dothan resident Amber Greathouse.

Many wiregrass residents find coping with the cold is more difficult than they thought.

“We are used to the heat down here, being a southern thing; we are used to the heat and humidity. For it to get so cold and freeze for so long it just catching people off guard,” said Wiregrass resident Wesley Davis.

But just how cold is it?

“Just the other day, I looked outside and my pool was frozen, The whole thing was frozen. It was crazy,” said Cole Battles.

“But this by far is the coldest it's ever been here to me,” he added.

Many wiregrass residents say what's different about this cold snap is how consistently cold it's been for so long. But some people say they actually like the cold weather.

“Personally, I’m enjoying it. I enjoy the cold as long as you stay bundled up I think it's pretty good,” said Davis.

“My dad said last night it's been cold but it's never stayed cold for this long!” said Greathouse.

Many are fed up with this wicked winter weather.

“It’s freezin’!” said Battles.

“This is not normal I haven't lived in Dothan for long...but I’ve heard and I believe that this is not normal for it to be this cold for this long,” said Lida Frith.

“I don't like it. I lost all my plants, I wasn't ready for that, wasn't prepared for that, but I’m hoping it warms up,” added Frith.

Some say if it's going to be like this we should at least get a winter surprise.

“I'm just ready for snow, if it's going to be this cold why don't it snow!?” said Greathouse.

Sunday's high was 37; the low 19!

Another hard freeze warning is in effect for Sunday night and into mid Monday morning

I think we had a cold snap about this long or longer in december and january of 2000 and 2001. Many of the temperatures were colder than this and are records to this day.
