Employee's Shirt Slashed in Mobile Theft Attempt

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Police are investigating after a Sears
employee was nearly cut with a box cutter when a man tried to
escape the store with merchandise.

Police spokesman Officer Ron Wallace tells the Press-Register in
a Friday story that 19-year-old Brandon Lambert was charged with
first-degree robbery.

He said Lambert walked through Sears around 5:30 p.m. Thursday
collecting merchandise in his pocket.

He then headed toward the door with his pockets brimming and a
43-year-old employee tried to stop him. Wallace said Lambert then
pulled out a box cutter and slashed the employee's shirt but
neither was hurt in the scuffle.

Lambert was arrested at the store and the merchandise was
returned. Wallace said he did not know what was taken.
