Alabama Church Plans to Build a 100-Foot Cross

JASPER, Ala. (AP) - A Walker County church is looking to make a
statement to motorists along future Interstate 22 in eastern
Alabama.

The Hunter's Chapel Holy Church of Christ is planning to build a
100-foot cross on its property. Pastor Dale Hyche said the idea
came after he and his wife saw a similar monument on a trip to
Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Construction is set to being in February and take about 14 weeks
to complete. The project will also include a prayer garden at the
foot of the cross.

Hyche said the $232,000 monument will be funded by donations
from church members, other churches and businesses.
