HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A former Guntersville police officer who was shot while answering a domestic disturbance call in 1993 died Friday at Marshall Medical Center North.
Tommy Bishop of Arab, who was an officer in Guntersville for about five years, was shot in the spine just below his protective vest, paralyzing him below the waist.
Cecil Eugene Looney, now 43, was sentenced to 70 years in prison for shooting Bishop and another 10 years for shooting his wife, and was denied parole last month.
The Huntsville times reports that Alabama's parole board says Looney won't be eligible for parole consideration again until December 2014.
