The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has received information on the potential for church burglaries.
This information has been obtained from other law enforcement offices in North Central Florida.
Intelligence indicates that this criminal activity appears to be moving into Northwest Florida.
Churches that have been targeted are in small to medium towns, and are usually ones that are a good distance off the road.
Fifty-eight churches in North Central Florida have had the same M.O.
Primary entry has been made through doors and windows, the majority of these burglaries have occurred Sunday evening through Monday and Wednesday evening through Thursday.
There have been some on Fridays and Saturdays usually after an event.
This is to make the church communities aware of this potential threat.
Some things that you can do to reduce the risk of your church being burglarized is to make sure the doors and windows are secured, report any suspicious activity you observe around or in the area of any church, do not leave money or valuables at the church, and check the church as often as possible.
Law enforcement officers will also be conducting checks at churches in their respective areas.
