ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) - Toll prices for Beach Express bridge
in Orange Beach are rising again.
It's the second time tolls are increasing since American Roads
LLC acquired the bridge in 2007.
Starting Friday, it will cost $3.50 for typical vehicles to use
the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway. Orange Beach residents
pay a discounted rate and won't see any increase from the $1.50
they are currently charged.
American Roads is also hiking the rates charged to trucks -
$3.50 for the first two axles, $1 for each additional - as well as
the cost of annual unlimited-use passes from $675 to $745.
City officials are upset about the increases and expect drivers
to reconsider their routes.
