OXFORD, Ala. (AP) - Police say an Oxford man has been killed
after he shot and injured an officer with a shotgun pellet.
Oxford police Chief Bill Partridge said Wednesday 41-year-old
Sunny Dale Wheeler was shot and killed at his home. The
unidentified officer was hit in the head but was not seriously
Partridge said the shooting developed from a domestic violence
call Oxford police received Tuesday night. They arrived to find a
man holding Wheeler on the floor.
Police said when Wheeler was allowed to stand, he ran and locked
himself in a bedroom, then fired a round through the door.
Both officers fired multiple rounds and exited the house. They
later entered the room and found Wheeler dead.
\Partridge said the officer were placed on administrative leave
with pay pending an investigation.
