COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Phenix City and Russell County have reached
a tentative agreement concerning the Russell County Phenix City
The Russell County Commission has voted 4-3 to work with the city on the new proposal but it's not a done deal until the two groups approve an official resolution.
County Commissioner Gentry Lee said joint ownership of the shelter is being discussed. All expenses will be shared 50/50 and the city will manage the shelter because they have been running one for many years.
Phenix City Councilor Jimmy Wetzel said the new agreement could
take effect by Jan. 1.
The new agreement will effectively dissolve the current board, chaired by veterinarian Dr. Bill Smith.
