PIEDMONT, Ala. (AP) - A 19-year-old who pleaded guilty to
stabbing her mother to death has been sentenced to 20 years in
Circuit Judge Brian Howell denied a probation request on Tuesday
from Lindsey Danielle Morgan of Piedmont.
Morgan pleaded guilty to murder in August. Prosecutors say
autopsy reports show Morgan stabbed her mother, Brenda Ingram, 13
times on Dec, 11, 2007. Testimony showed that Ingram was asleep
when she was attacked.
Defense attorneys asked Judge Brian Howell to consider a split
sentence, in which Morgan would serve part of the 20 year sentence
in prison and the rest on probation.
The Anniston Star reports that Howell said after the sentencing
his decision was influenced by the fact that no confrontation was
taking place when Ingram was killed.
