MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Legislators are expecting to hear bad news when they receive forecasts on how much money will be available for the next state budgets.
Lawmakers will be briefed Monday by Legislative Fiscal Officer Joyce Bigbee and state Finance Director Bill Newton on revenue forecasts for the next fiscal year. Legislators expect the news will continue to show slow growth in tax revenues because of the recession.
After hearing the revenue projections in the morning, the lawmakers will begin hearing budget requests for the General Fund and education budgets in the afternoon.
Medicaid Director Carol Steckel is scheduled to present her agency's budget requests at 1 p.m.
