Governor Riley declares state of emergency in advance of Ida

Gov. Bob Riley has declared an official state of emergency in Alabama due to the threat of Tropical Storm Ida.

The emergency declaration was issued at midday Monday.

It enables the governor to invoke emergency preparedness measures, including the state's law against price gouging.

Riley said at a news conference in Mobile that Alabama lies
directly in the path of Ida.

He said Alabama residents should take the storm's threat seriously and follow the direction of local emergency managers.
