MONTGOMERY, AL (October 27, 2009) – Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) will hold a week-long celebration of Veterans in early November that will include an parade on the Tuskegee Campus the afternoon of November 5, and culminate with a Veterans Day observance on the Montgomery Campus at 11 am on November 11, which will feature the Honorable Todd Strange, Mayor of the City of Montgomery, as keynote speaker.
The annual kickoff of the CAVHCS’ Veterans Day celebration will be the 60th Annual Veterans Day Parade held on the Tuskegee VA Medical Center’s grounds and starting at 3 pm at historic Vetegee Field.
Tuskegee’s Veterans Day Parade is an event that celebrates Veterans as well as historic ties between CAVHCS and the City of Tuskegee.
This year’s Parade Grand Marshall is State of Alabama, Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner W. Clyde Marsh, Admiral (US Navy, Retired).
The parade is always highlighted by participants ranging from local military units, area schools, college bands and beauty queens to drill teams, marching units and Veteran and military organization floats.
Also included in the list of CAVHCS Veterans Day events is a special Women Veterans program which will be held Friday, November 6, from 8:30 am until noon in the Tuskegee VA Medical Center’s Staff Training Room.
Culminating CAVHCS’ annual celebration of our nation’s heroes is the Veterans Day ceremony held at the Montgomery VA Medical Center Wednesday morning at 11:00.
The ceremony will feature the Presentation of the Colors by the Honor Guard from Maxwell-Gunter, Air Force Base, patriotic music from the Capitol Sounds Concert Band, the laying of a Memorial Wreath and comments from Mayor Strange.
