Longtime Calera fire chief dies from pneumonia

CALERA, Ala. (AP) - The longtime fire chief in Calera has died.

Calera Mayor George Roy said Chief Tommy Moon died Saturday after a monthlong battle with pneumonia. Moon was 57.

Moon, who worked for the fire department for 33 years, was chief for the last two decades. He had been diagnosed with leukemia in May but was declared cancer-free three months later.

Moon was hospitalized with pneumonia in September and never recovered. Funeral arrangements are pending.
