A new, state-of-the-art medical facility was open for the public to check out Sunday in Dothan.

After four years of planning and construction, Surgery Center South is now open for business.

The facility is located at the intersection of Ross Clark Circle and Fortner Street and is attached to Eye Center South.

Right now, the center offers several surgical procedures for eyes, but will soon expand their services to include other types of specialty out-patient procedures, including reconstructive and plastic surgery.

The center has six operating rooms and the entire campus is 94,000 square feet.

“One of the things we really worked hard on was to give the patient and their family a feeling that when they come in this facility things are calm, they're soothing, they're going to be well taken care of, high quality, so that the experience is really very good. This is a facility that provides good cost effective surgical services and we're happy to be able to have that for the wiregrass and for our patients,” Dr. Marnix Heersink

The center is licensed by the Alabama State Board of Health and is Medicare certified.
