Former Police Sergeant Convicted of Murder

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) - A Talladega County jury has convicted a
former Lincoln police sergeant of murder in the death of a
Louisiana man.

The jury of seven women and five men deliberated for about 3½
hours on Wednesday before convicting 43-year-old Kevin Wade Jung of murdering Wayne Earl Ellis of West Monroe, La., in 2003.

Jung and former police officer Kenneth Pollard were accused of
beating Ellis to death in a parking lot on Alabama Highway 77.
Pollard is serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted
in 2005.

Jung will be sentenced by Circuit Judge Bo Hollingsworth Nov. 4.

Jung and Pollard were responding to a confrontation between
Ellis and a group of teenagers. A witness said Ellis was beaten for
several minutes after he refused a breathalyzer test.
