ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is interviewing officers involved in a shooting following a police chase that left a Calhoun County man dead.
Calhoun County sheriff Larry Amerson says the chase on U.S. Highway 431 began Sunday night when officers spotted a pickup truck with its lights off on the wrong side of the road.
Amerson says officers pursuing the suspect made several attempts to stop his car and used the front fender of a police car to hit the rear fender of the truck, causing it to flip over and land in the median.
The sheriff says that when officers approached the vehicle the man got out and shots were fired.
Coroner Pat Brown said the man was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds.
