U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $1,000,000 to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (ADFS).
The funds will be used to improve operation infrastructure and analysis capacity of the ADFS laboratory system, renovate existing ADFS morgue and laboratory facilities and provide training for ADFS scientific staff.
“The ADFS provides critical scientific assistance to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies investigating criminal cases in Alabama,” said Shelby.
“ADFS is also the forensic support unit for law enforcement agencies in Alabama that do not have DNA and forensic capability. This funding is vital to ensure that ADFS can continue to provide the assistance and resources necessary to solve crimes in our state.”
