60 Minute Miracle: Jessie Baker

WTVY and Solomon Chevrolet are trying to change lives during the month of November. Every week, News 4’s Devon Sellers will approach a perfect stranger and ask if they know someone who could use $500 cash.

This week’s miracle started in Hartford at Tate’s Grocery store.

Pauline Taylor and her son Michael said the Baker family in Ozark could use some help.

“They're dealing with a lot of hardship. Mrs. Baker is trying to take care of her husband. She has two grandkids, her daughter and son in law that's also living with her. I think she has a new great grandchild that's been added to the family. It’s quite a bit that she's dealing with, but she's dealing with it,” said Pauline.

Pauline explains her church group was actually trying to do something for the family, but with the holidays approaching everyone is a little cash strapped.

So could this 60 minute miracle be fate?

“She'll be shocked. as I am. I didn't come over here expecting to be interviewed. I think she'll appreciate it. They all will. So maybe that was my purpose coming over here. Because i don't come over here too often. So maybe that was my purpose today,” said Pauline.

After a forty-five minute drive we met Jessie Baker out on her front porch, and she invited us in.

We presented her with an envelope containing $500.

“I really appreciate this. This is God working because he works. The only thing for me to do is trust,” said Baker. “We are going to enjoy Thanksgiving. That's what I'm looking forward to, Thanksgiving. I have two sisters. We put our food together and sit and eat together. Turkey, ham, collard greens, squash casserole. So that's what we're going to do. Eat together.”

And be thankful for this 60 Minute Miracle.
