WTVY and Solomon Chevrolet are trying to change lives during the month of November. Every week, News 4’s Devon Sellers will approach a perfect stranger and ask if they know someone who could use $500 cash.
This week’s miracle started in an Enterprise neighborhood.
Jennifer Morris said her friend Haleigh Rodgers could use some help.
Haleigh and her husband are expecting their first child.
“They’re trying to make it on their own. I know that she wouldn’t want to reach out for help,” said Jennifer.
Although Jennifer is a single mom with two kids and could have used this money herself, she explained why she was so willing to help someone else.
“I’ve been in several situations where I’ve needed help, but I’m lucky enough to have my parents to help me and to lean on for support,” said Jennifer.
So we set out for Geneva to deliver the cash.
Haleigh came outside, not quite sure why we were there. Once we explained and handed over he $500, she was speechless.
“I’m 16 weeks pregnant. My husband is doing a crazy bit of work to keep us barely floating by,” said Haleigh.
She plans to spend the money on her baby.
“Today is my birthday, and I’m not even thinking about me. I’m thinking about my family’s future,” said Haliegh.
Her husband Casey came home for lunch just after we left. Haleigh tracked us down so we could surprise him.
“Talk about being speechless, and at a time when we really need it,” said Casey.
Haleigh added, “We don’t expect help from anybody. We don’t look for help from anybody. We appreciate the fact that there are people out there who care enough to give help even though they don’t have to.”
“I’m not a crier, but I do appreciate this. I really mean it. We’ll pass it forward,” said Casey.
