60 Minute Miracle: Betty Ransbottom

Is an hour long enough to change someone’s life? WTVY and Solomon Chevrolet are on a mission to do that this November. Each week we’ll bring you a “60 Minute Miracle.”

As we drove through Midland City we didn’t have a plan, just a mission. Find someone who could help us make a miracle.

When we approached the city clerk, Melissa Knighton, she knew exactly who needed a miracle, Betty Ransbottom.

“If you're willing to help that lady out, she is battling cancer,” said Knighton.

With just an hour to deliver the $500, Knighton calls Betty and tells her she has an important message to give her.

We set off, and just fifteen minutes later we knock on the door, and Betty waves us in.

After explaining our mission and handing over the cash, Betty can hardly believe it.

“I need a car,” she says. “I won’t spend a dime of it until I get the rest of it up for a down payment.”

Betty explained that she lives by herself on a fixed income. She’s been borrowing her brother’s car during the week to drive to chemo.

In fact, this miracle happened just in time. Betty was about to leave.

“I’ve never had anything like this happen for me. I’ve got cancer. I’ve got to have chemo today. That will make it easier,” said Betty.

Although her year has been difficult, she said her faith provides.

“When I first found out I had cancer, he said four months without the chemo. But I don’t worry about that at all. I know that I’m here for a reason. God answers prayers, and he’s answered so many for me.

One answered prayer was her grandson Ethan’s rescue. He made national headlines in February after he was kidnapped and held hostage in an underground bunker for nearly a week.

“Bless his heart he was so brave. Oh I prayed all the time. I still do,” said Betty.

The crew at city hall said Betty does so much for other people, but now they are happy to help create a miracle and change Betty’s life.

“Thank them so much. It’s a wonderful thing they did. It makes me feel so good to know there are people that care. People like ya’ll are so wonderful. I’m so… I don’t know what to say, except it’s so wonderful and I appreciate it.
