DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - A Decatur man says he was frightened out of his sleep when a window in his house was broken and regrets that he shot and killed a 14-year-old who police say was one of three youths attempting to burglarize the home.
The homeowner, 48-year-old Noel Mclean, says he had worked a night shift and was fast asleep Tuesday morning when he heard glass break at the back of the house and grabbed a gun.
Mclean says he confronted the youths, two of whom were inside, and fired one shot.
Police say 14-year-old Ta'veon Tashawn Mason, an Austin High School student, was killed.
Police investigated the shooting, but did not file any charges in connection with Mason's death.
