HOMEWOOD, Ala. (AP) - Jefferson County authorities are trying to sort out who should have custody of a 19-month-old boy after the father was arrested and accused of abducting the toddler.
The father, 33-year-old Carlton Fenton, was arrested on Monday at his apartment in New York City. Homewood police say the man's son, Cameron Fenton, was with him.
Monique McMillian of Birmingham, Cameron's mother, says she picked Fenton rom Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport for a Labor Day weekend visit, picked their son up from a relative's home, then drove to a restaurant in Homewood.
She says father and son disappeared from the restaurant and she called police.
Police say Fenton faxed them a court order from New York City granting him temporary custody of Cameron. A custody hearing is scheduled in Jefferson County.
