A former south Alabama student has been linked to al-Qaeda terrorists.
According to published reports, Omar Hammami was indicted by a grand jury in Mobile yesterday on charges of providing material support to terrorists.
The U.S. attorney's office has declined to comment in the case, but sources say the FBI has been investigating Hammami for years.
Hammami was interviewed by television crews back in 2001 when he described Arab
American relations post 9/11.
He was president of his Daphne school's Muslim association.
A Baldwin county schools spokesman says Hammami withdrew from Daphne High School after his junior year in the spring of 2001.
