BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Jefferson County Sheriff's officials have seized Richard Scrushy's 26 automobiles from his Vestavia estate.
Lawyers for HealthSouth Corp. shareholders received a judge's order Friday allowing deputies in Jefferson and Tallapoosa counties to occupy his $5 million homes there, secure the contents and arrange an auction of everything.
Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Randy Christian said deputies worked to remove automobiles and secure the Vestavia premises.
Officials will take custody of the houses and contents pending an auction to compensate for the fraud $2.6 billion fraud that a Jefferson County judge found was conducted by Scrushy while he was chief executive.
