2 Teens Arrested in Phenix City Shooting of Boy

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - Two teens have been charged with assault in connection to the shooting of a 9-year-old boy who was struck in the thigh.

Police Capt. Frank Ivey said the suspects - 16- and 17-year-old juveniles - are accused of being in a Chevrolet Tahoe around 8:15 p.m. Aug. 27 at Riverview Apartments when shots were fired toward a group standing around the 1100 building.

Ivey said the 9-year-old was released from the hospital and is at home.

The 16-year-old was found around 3 p.m. Tuesday in Columbus, Ga., after officers stopped his vehicle, believed to be the Tahoe used in the shooting. He must be extradited to Alabama before he can stand before a judge.

The 17-year-old was with his mother when he turned himself in to police at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
