JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Aug. 31, 2009) — Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., is offering flu vaccinations on a walk-in basis to customers in all of its Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama in-store pharmacies, as well as several locations in Florida and Georgia beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The grocer will begin offering vaccination clinics in all of its in-store pharmacies on Tuesday, Sept 15. Customers who use their Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card will receive a $5 discount. Medicare Part B participants will receive the flu shots at no cost.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the most important step in protecting against the flu is to get vaccinated. The CDC recommends that children 6 months through 5 years of age, pregnant women, people 50 years of age and older, and people with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease should be vaccinated each year.
“According to the CDC, the single best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated each year. Offering our customers an economical vaccine program remains a top priority for Winn-Dixie,” said Robin Miller, director of communications. “Besides the convenience, offering these vaccines at competitive rates in our stores will save our customers and their health insurers more than $2 million.”
Flu vaccines will be administered by licensed health care professionals and no appointment is necessary. For a list of dates, times and Winn-Dixie store locations where the vaccination clinics will be offered, contact your neighborhood Winn-Dixie pharmacist or visit:
In addition to the flu vaccinations being offered, Winn-Dixie is also working with local, state and federal health authorities to assist with administration of H1N1 vaccines when they become available.
