BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Work has begun to repair cracks in a
parking deck at the Birmingham Social Security Administration
Center that was constructed by the company that built an Atlanta
parking deck that collapsed in June.
Metromont Corp. says repairs should be complete by Friday.
Nobody was injured when the Atlanta deck collapsed on June 29,
totaling 45 car.
A representative for Metromont says the problems at the Birmingham deck are different from those at the Atlanta deck.
A routine inspection July 27 found problems in parts of the parking deck and those areas were cordoned off until repairs could begin. Officials say other parts of the deck are OK, but some employees have been avoiding the deck.
