Eclectic man killed in early morning crash

Eclectic, AL — According to authorities, A single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning claimed the life of an Eclectic man.

Joseph Burke Sylvest III, 46, Eclectic, was a passenger in a 1995 Toyota pick-up truck driven by John Blevins Simeon, 22, also of Eclectic when Simeon lost control of the vehicle.

Initial investigation indicates that the vehicle flipped several times before it came to rest against a telephone pole and tree causing fatal head injuries to Sylvest.

Simeon was transported to Elmore community hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at 4:30 a.m. about 3 miles east of Eclectic on Alabama 170 in Elmore County.

None of the occupants was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
