ENTERPRISE, Ala. – Many residents living in the Wiregrass Area are very familiar with the sounds of aircraft flying overhead; but soon those familiar sounds will grow into rumbles and roars as the first Enterprise Aviation Expo takes flight September 26, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Enterprise Municipal Airport in Enterprise, Alabama.

Tickets are on sale now for the premier event and can be purchased at the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce office located on Glover Avenue and at the Parks and Recreation office located on East Lee Street.

Admission to the event is $5 and there is no charge for children under 12 years of age.

The exciting event will pay tribute to the rich aviation heritage alive in the Wiregrass by highlighting many Warbirds and other vintage aircraft throughout our U.S. Military history.

Other displays such as vintage military vehicles and weapons will be on display.

“Many residents do not know about the hidden treasures of aviation that can be found right here in Enterprise,” said City of Enterprise Mayor Kenneth W. Boswell. “With this Expo, we are able to provide a great venue for people to step back in time and view aircraft from another era, many dating back to World War II.”

The City of Enterprise has been a proud supporter and sponsor of Aviation and the United States Military for many years and is honored to be a friend and neighbor of Fort Rucker, Alabama- The United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence.

“Fort Rucker has helped to foster the love of aviation in our community and promote our airport. So many of our hangers are filled with aircraft belonging to retired and active military soldiers,” said Boswell. “I am very grateful that Fort Rucker will be bringing static displays to this event.”

This is an opportunity for not only military families to come out and view aircraft from World War II through present day, but this allows everyone in the community to experience history. Many World War II veterans from the first Honor Flight will also be in attendance in hopes of seeing familiar aircraft.

The family-friendly event is open to the public and will not only provide excitement for aircraft aficionados, but will have local food, live music, recreational activities and the opportunity to take flight.

Children between the ages of 8 to 17 will have the opportunity to enjoy airplane rides, at no cost, thanks to the support of the Southeast Alabama chapter 351 of the Experimental Aircraft Association. The EAA provides an opportunity for youth to go flying in a general aviation airplane through their Young Eagles Program. Enterprise Helicopters will also provide rides to families for a nominal fee.

“This being the first air expo the City has put on, we really wanted to make this a great event,” said Airport Manager Julius Noble. “Preparation is well underway, but this event would not be possible without the support and sponsorship of many great organizations and community members.”
