MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A coastal Alabama environmental watchdog has
Wolf Bay Watershed Watch's Stan Mahoney died Monday. No cause of
death was given. He was 59.
Mahoney was the driving force behind the decision by the Alabama Environmental Management Commission to give upper Wolf Bay the state's highest environmental designation, Outstanding Alabama Water. The bay is the only estuary in the state to have the designation. He also played a role in keeping clean local creeks.
No funeral is planned. A celebration of life service will be held for Mahoney on Sept. 26. The event will be at the Foley Civic Center from 3 to 7 p.m.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Wolf Bay Watershed Watch.
