FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - Courthouse officials say a Tennessee man
accused of killing a north Alabama man more than two years ago has
entered a surprise guilty plea and agreed not to appeal a life
sentence.

Greg Leon Nard of Iron City pleaded guilty to capital murder
Wednesday in Lauderdale County Circuit Court. His trial was set to
begin Monday.

Nard, who is 27, was charged along with his father, 49-year-old
William David Nard, and friend, 44-year-old Norman Earnest
Widdowson, also of Iron City, in the January 2007 stabbing death of
James Gregory Wright.

The Nards were indicted on capital murder charges last year and
both faced the death penalty. Widdowson pleaded guilty to a murder
charge in February.

He'll be eligible for parole.

The elder Nards trial is scheduled for October.
