ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - Police have arrested an Athens man and
charged him with child abuse for injuries that sent his infant son
to the hospital.
Police responding to a call Sunday from the child's mother found
the 4-month-old with bruises on his arm and face and a swollen lip.
Sgt. Dustin Lansford said officers arrested 21-year-old Patrick
Oneal Colwell, who told police he was playing with his son and may
have shaken him a bit too hard. Colwell faces aggravated child
Lansford said child abuse is a class C felony and could result
in jail time.
Colwell was being held in Limestone County Jail. The baby was
treated and released from Athens-Limestone Hospital.
