Former Alabama public safety director joins Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's former public safety director,
Mike Coppage, is the new director of public safety and emergency
management at Samford University in Birmingham.

The university announced that Coppage will begin his new job
Wednesday.

Coppage replaces Bobby Breed, who retired.

Coppage was police chief of Birmingham from 1998 to 2003 and
director of the Alabama Department of Public Safety from 2003 to
2006.
