Man killed by police had long criminal history

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Records show 46-year-old James Alan Hill of Lake Charles, La., had been arrested for alleged multiple thefts, burglaries, and bank robberies in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi over a 28-year period.

Police say Hill was wearing a hooded jacket with goggles and a
scarf when he entered a bank in Mobile, Alabama, on Thursday.

He demanded money from a teller, was given bags of money and fled in a car. Police began a pursuit.

Authorities say Hill later pointed a weapon at officers who
fired and struck him. Hill's weapon turned out to be a replica of a handgun.
