Birmingham teen charged with attempted murder

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A 19-year-old Birmingham man has been charged with attempted murder after driving a van straight at three Jefferson County sheriff's deputies trying to get him to stop.

The Jefferson County sheriff's department said a 14-year-old girl was found with a gunshot wound at the same scene.

Jeffrey Lloyd Grant has been charged with three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment, resisting
arrest and third-degree burglary.

Deputies responded at about 1 a.m. Sunday to reports of a fight involving a large group of teenagers and possible shots fired, sheriff's spokesman Lt. Randy Christian said.

He said there were about 200 teens standing in the roadway.

The 14-year-old girl was in stable condition Sunday afternoon.

Her shooting was under investigation.
