FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - A Brooks High School history teacher has avoided assault charges when a jury instead found him guilty of misdemeanor harassment for the punches he landed on a school administrator in February.
Jurors viewed surveillance tapes of 58-year-old Allen Wilson punching 42-year-old Denny Rex Belew, an administrator of the Lauderdale County school system's alternative school program.
Wilson will be sentenced August 11th. District Attorney Chris Connolly said Wilson will get no more than three months in jail for the harassment conviction.
The incident stemmed from a dispute in which Belew said Wilson refused to send course work for students assigned to his class at the alternative school.
In the tape, Wilson appears to throw and land four punches. After Wilson punches him, Belew attempts to kick him twice, appearing to land at least one blow.
