HOUMA, La. (AP) - An Alabama man accused of killing a
22-year-old woman while driving drunk has refused a plea deal and
chose to stand trial later this year.
Twenty-one-year-old John Waldrop, of Mobile, is charged with
vehicular homicide of Amanda Larpenter of Gray.
During a court hearing Monday, Waldrop rejected what attorney
Brandon Brown later said was an offer of 15 years in prison in
exchange for a guilty plea.
The maximum is 30 years.
Brown says Waldrop refused because he was unsure how many years he might face before becoming eligible for parole.
His trial was scheduled Aug. 17.
Waldrop was 19 at the time of the crash.
