2 dead in plane crash in east Alabama

BEAUREGARD, Ala. (AP) - Two people have been killed and two others injured in the crash of a single-engine plane in a pasture in east Alabama.

Lee County Sheriff's Captain Van Jackson said deputies responded to a call late Friday morning regarding a downed plane near the Beauregard community, about half a mile off Lee Road 112.

Sheriff Jay Jones said deputies located the plane by using cell-phone technology. He said the two injured were taken to East Alabama Medical Center.

The sheriff said Federal Aviation Administration officials in Birmingham have been contacted to investigate.

A message left with the FAA was not immediately returned Friday.
