Campaign Finance Reform Bill Dies in Legislature

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Campaign finance reform legislation to
ban a process candidates sometimes use to hide contributions has
once again died in the Alabama Legislature.

The bill by Democratic Rep. Jeff McLaughlin would have banned
transferring contributions from one political action committee to another. McLaughlin says the transfers make it impossible for the public to see where a candidate is getting his campaign money.

The bill passed the House early in the 2009 regular session, but died Thursday because it had not come up for a vote in a Senate
committee. The Legislature will wrap-up up the session Friday.

This was the eighth time McLaughlin has introduced the legislation. Most bills passed the House and died in the Senate.
