US Supreme Court denies stay of Alabama execution

ATMORE, Ala. (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to delay the lethal injection set Thursday for Alabama death row inmate Willie McNair.

The 44-year-old McNair is scheduled to be executed at 6 p.m. for the killing of a 68-year-old Abbeville woman, Ella Foy Riley. The retired textile workers' throat was cut with a pocketknife and her purse stolen.
