Mobile Man Surrenders After Tense Standoff

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A man accused of holding his wife hostage at
her job in Mobile and firing shots inside 1st American Storage has
surrendered to police, ending a tense standoff.

Police Chief Phillip Garrett said the woman suffered minor injuries when taken hostage Wednesday, but no one else inside the building was hurt.

John Earl Rollins has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and domestic violence.

Garrett said Rollins had locked himself inside a bathroom with his wife. He had a shotgun. Garrett said police negotiated with Rollins for about an hour and he was calm when he finally came out.

Police did not release the name of the woman, and she was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
