It is with great pride, and a sense of duty, that I declare my candidacy for the Office of Attorney General of Alabama. There is truly no higher honor than being the lawyer for the people of our great state.

My first priority, once elected, will be to restore excellence, integrity and the highest ethical standard to the office. Unfortunately, ethical lapses, impropriety, and incompetence have plagued the office throughout the last five years. The respect that the office earned under the leadership of our former Attorneys General, Senator Jeff Sessions and Judge Bill Pryor, has sadly declined. Alabamians can only restore integrity to the Office of Attorney General with a change in leadership.

Second, I will marshal the full power of the office to support the Governor’s fight to end illegal gambling operations in the state. As Alabama’s newspapers have widely reported, the current Attorney General issued an official opinion stating that the Houston County sheriff must grant a permit to a gambling development, only three months after attending a party at the gambling developer’s home. This conflict of interest is unacceptable. Alabamians deserve an Attorney General whose only allegiance is to the law.

Third, I will pursue corruption wherever it may be. Unfortunately, the current Attorney General had to recuse himself from the investigations of the two-year college system because of his ethical lapse involving a former administrator in the system. This is the most important public corruption investigation in decades, and our current Attorney General cannot participate. Alabama needs an Attorney General who is willing and able to confront corruption head on.

My 30-year career as an accomplished lawyer has prepared me well for this challenge. I have repeatedly been recognized by my peers as one of the best lawyers in America. I am honored to be included in the prestigious publication Best Lawyer’s in America, to be named “Best of the Bar” by the Birmingham Business Journal, and to be recognized as one of the “Best Lawyers” by Birmingham Magazine. These honors resulted directly from my hard work and steadfast adherence to high moral and ethical standards.

I gained invaluable experience working with Judge Bill Pryor when I chaired his successful campaigns for Attorney General. Together we worked to establish the Republican Attorneys General Association, an organization that has been instrumental in the fight against lawsuit abuse.

It is with these qualifications that I feel I can serve Alabama best in the Attorney General’s Office. I will approach the job of Attorney General with the goal of restoring the integrity of the Office. I will aggressively enforce our laws without prejudice and protect the legal rights of the people of Alabama. I will work with district attorneys and law enforcement officials to prosecute law-breakers, fight illegal immigration, and keep the scourge of drugs off of our streets and out of our neighborhoods and schools.

I am very confident that the voters of this State want new leadership in the Attorney General’s Office, and I am optimistic that the voters will decide that I am the leader that is needed.

The job of the Attorney General is to honorably lead the most important law firm in the state. With your help, I will provide that leadership. I ask all Alabamians to join me in restoring excellence, integrity, and professionalism to the Office of the Attorney General of Alabama.
