BRISBANE, Australia (AP) - An Alabama man charged with murdering
his wife during a honeymoon scuba dive on Australia's Great Barrier
Reef is in jail awaiting his first court appearance.
The woman, 26-year-old Christina Mae Watson, drowned during a
dive on a historic shipwreck near the northeastern Australia city
of Townsville in 2003 as her husband of 11 days looked on.
Authorities say David Gabriel Watson of Hoover, Ala., arrived in
Brisbane on Tuesday and is awaiting a court appearance.
Lt. Brad Flynn of the Helena, Ala., police department says
Watson was arrested upon his arrival on a warrant issued last June
by an Australian coroner.
The groom, an experienced diver, told police he decided to go for help rather than attempting a rescue when his wife sank into the deep.
