Alabama House again rejects Senate changes to budget

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama House has for the second day
in a row rejected Senate changes to a $2.5 billion budget to fund
non-education state services.

The House on Thursday voted not to accept a report of a
House-Senate conference committee that had attempted to resolve
differences between the House and Senate versions of the budget.

The House voted 49-44 to consider the conference committee
report on the General Fund budget. That was short of the 53 votes

Some House members complained the conference committee report
did not do enough to remove special projects added to the budget in
the Senate. House members had complained that the Senate cut $9
million from funding for prisons. The conference committe restored
$3 million to prisons, but some House members said that was not
