MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities have identified a man shot and
killed by Alabama state troopers on Interstate 65 as John McCulloch
of Bay Minette.
Trooper Cpl. Steve Jarrett says McCulloch had attempted to run
down a trooper and was shot after being stopped on I-65 about 100
miles north of Mobile.
The April 30 incident began when a caller reported that a driver
had rammed a vehicle in Conecuh County and drove away.
Two troopers stopped McCulloch near the 105-mile marker.
Jarrett says a trooper walked up to the vehicle, but was hit when the car accelerated.
Troopers fired at the car.
The vehicle went across the median into the southbound lanes before stopping.
McCulloch died at the scene from the gunshot wounds.
