Alabama troopers launch first-ever statewide blitz

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Better obey traffic laws. Alabama state troopers have launched their first-ever statewide enforcement blitz.

The latest effort got under way Saturday and runs through the Memorial Day weekend.

Colonel Chris Murphy, Alabama's Public Safety Director, said troopers will target drunken drivers, seat belt use and other driving violations that lead to crashes.

He also said DPS will deploy mobile blood alcohol testing units during the May blitz.

Alabama troopers started the traffic blitz in 2007.
