BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (AP) - Police estimated Sunday's 60th
Annual Blessing of the Fleet drew about 5,000 spectators to Bayou
La Batre on the Alabama coast.
About two dozen shrimp trawlers and other vessels crowded into
the harbor, decked out in colorful flags for a boat parade.
Roman Catholic Archbishop Thomas Rodi of Mobile gave the
traditional blessing for a safe fishing season.
Names of those lost at sea were read aloud.
The bayou has struggled back from Hurricane Katrina, which
tossed shrimp boats into the marshes in 2005 and crippled the
seafood industry for a while.
