Six Troy University students studying risk management and insurance in the Sorrell College of Business will head to London Saturday to learn from leaders of the industry.
Candace Anderson, of Birmingham, Donovan Beitel, of Troy, Cody Lowrey, of Jemison, April Lynch, of Troy, Patrick McGlon, of Mobile, and Jacob Preston, of Birmingham, will intern at Lloyds of London and shadow other insurance professionals at London firms Chaucer Syndicate, Markel International, Decus Brokers, Aon, Beazley Syndicate, ACE and Gallagher.
Dr. Carol Jordan, eminent scholar of risk management and insurance, coordinates what has become an annual pilgrimage to Lloyd’s and will teach at Chaucer Syndicate during the week-long visit.
She will be joined on the trip by Dr. Ed Pappanastos, an assistant professor of risk management and insurance. Pappanastos will lecture at Decus Brokers during the trip.
While at Lloyd’s, Jordan said the students will study under insurance brokers and underwriters at the famed brokerage house, the world’s oldest and largest insurance marketplace. The company has conducted insurance business since 1686.
“This is a great opportunity for them to see how the process of this type of insurance works,” Jordan said.
The trip isn’t all work, however. Jordan said the students will take in plays in London’s West End, tour historic sites including Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge and Old Sarum.
