SELMA, Ala. (AP) - A Dallas County man who pleaded guilty in the
shooting death of a woman sitting in a truck has been sentenced to
25 years in prison with the possibility of parole.
The accused, 59-year-old Tommy Lee Guthridge, admitted Tuesday to shooting 27-year-old Sarah Monique Thomas on the afternoon of March 5th, 2007. The plea was entered shortly before his trial was to begin.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said Guthridge had planned to argue insanity, but the plea agreement was reached between the defense and prosecutors.
Investigators said Guthridge never gave a definitive reason for shooting Thomas, who was in a pickup truck with another man when Guthridge walked toward them and shot her once in the chest with a rifle.
