MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State University is offering 15 Alabama high school students a chance to study Chinese in Taiwan this summer free of charge.

The university is offering a grant award for the Alabama Mandarin Language Immersion Program, which will give students the chance to participate in language and culture classes at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei for six weeks.

Students have until April 30th to qualify for the program online. Fifteen students will be chosen from the applicant pool.

The chosen students will leave Montgomery on June 19th.

ASU professor Huey-Ling Lin, a Taiwan native, said the students will enjoy many cultural activities and stay at the homes of Taiwanese host families on weekends.
